School Newsletter

Newsletter No 4 – 5th December 2011

Dear Parents,

Operation Christmas Child
You will be pleased to know we collected 39 shoeboxes which joined the others collected in the Leamington area to make a total of 8,660 boxes. A truck left on 1st December and is on its way to Simferopol in Crimea, south Ukraine, to help make Christmas a happy one for disadvantaged children there.

Children in Need
We raised £314.28 for Children In Need, this includes a staggering £143.70 that Georgia Deakin’s mum raised by dressing up as a clown for the day!

Christmas Concert
We are all looking forward to the children performing The Nativity. Please make sure you collect your tickets from the office as there will be no entry to the concert without a ticket. Please note toddlers and babies should attend the day performances only and NOT the evenings. As in previous years, parents are free to video or take photos at the performances. You are reminded the children will go home at 2.00pm on Thursday 8th December, to come back at 5.45pm, fully dressed in costume, and to go straight to their classrooms.

Christmas Fair
The Christmas Fair takes place next Friday 9th December between 5 – 7pm. Volunteers are still required to help; please see the sign up sheet in the entrance hall.

Christmas Party
Parent representatives will be coming round soon with party food lists for the children’s Christmas party to be held on Thursday 15th December in the afternoon.

Christmas Service
All parents and friends are warmly invited to join with us at All Saints’ Church on Thursday 15th December at 9.15am for our end of term service.

Christmas activities
Monday 5th – All Saints Junior School to see The Nativity
Tuesday 6th, Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th – pre-school, grandparents and parents to see The Nativity
Tuesday 13th – Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer pantomime in school
Wednesday 14th – whole school walk to St Nicholas Park & Christmas lunch
Thursday 15th – church service and children’s parties

After School Clubs
All clubs finished last week (week commencing 28th November), as the next couple of weeks are going to be very busy for the children and staff.

Drumming Workshops
If your child has enjoyed African drumming after school and would like to continue with the club, or they haven’t tried it yet but would like to give it a go, please register your interest at the office.

School Post Box
There is a post box in the entrance hall for children to post Christmas cards to their friends. Please make sure they clearly mark the envelope with the name of the child and their classso that our expert team of year 2 sorters can deliver them correctly!

Coats in School
Please make sure your child wears a coat to school, and that it is clearly named and has a loop to hang it up with.

School Closure Text Message Service
You can sign up to receive text and email alerts if the school has to close due to bad weather at www.warwickshire.gov.uk/schoolclosures. Announcements will also be made on local radio stations.

Reading Research
Reading regularly with your child now reaps rewards for them in later life. So says a recent international study by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, which has discovered a strong link between teenage reading skills and early parental help. The OECD analysis found that active parental involvement at the beginning of school was a significant trigger for developing children’s reading skills that would carry through until they were teenagers. The report says that parents reading books regularly with their children and talking about what they are reading together is what is important. And the study also found a link between teenagers’ reading skills and continued engagement with their parents.

Absence from School
It is most important that you inform the school by phone on the first day of your child’s absence or by letter on their return to school. And please remember if your child has been sick they must not return to school for 48 hours after the last bout of sickness. We have a lot of children who are returning to school before they are fully recovered.

School Telephone Number
The main number for the school office is 491433.  However, we have had an additional line installed which is 498383 and is for outgoing calls and sending faxes only.  Please do not ring us on this number as it comes through to our fax line.  If you miss a call from school which shows up as 498383, please return the call on 491433.

Donations of Nearly New Toys Required
If you are having a clear out before Christmas and have some toys you no longer require but that are still in good condition, please consider donating them to the school.

Zumba
Ace’s Zumba holds classes at the school on Tuesday evenings at 7.00pm, costing £4 each. Come and get fit before the excesses of the festive season!
