School Newsletter

Spring Term 2011
Newsletter No. 9 - 6th May 2011

Dear Parents,

I can’t believe it’s the summer term already - how did we get here so fast? I am very pleased to tell you that during the spring term we had a day visit from Ofsted and we are now on their new website as a school with good practice for sustainability. Please have a look at the website. We are delighted that we are the 8th school in the country to be added to the site.

Chicks
The beginning of the term saw the delivery of some eggs for hatching and we now have 6 chicks in the shared area by the year 1 classrooms. All the children have been learning some valuable lessons, from life cycles to where food comes from. If you would like to come and visit the chicks you are welcome to pop in and see how they are developing.

Emscote Day Fun Run and Community Party
A Fun Run for all ages, Pig Roast, Donkey Rides, and a whole host of stalls and fun and games! The event takes place on Saturday 14th May at All Saints’ Junior School, Nelson Avenue, Warwick from 11.00am – 2.00pm.  To register for the fun run and/or to reserve a stall please email to efrasp@googlemail.com or leave a message for Alwyn or Andrew at The Gap on (01926) 496702. We will be running stalls to raise money for the school. Do come along to support us. If anyone can help on the day even just for an hour please come along and volunteer.

Year 2 Parents Coffee
The headteacher of All Saints’ Junior School Mr Machin will be coming to Emscote at 9.00am on Tuesday 24th May for a coffee morning to meet with year 2 parents. This will be an opportunity for those parents whose children move up to the junior school in September to meet with Mr Machin, and to address any concerns they may have about the transition.

Inset Day and Half Term
You are reminded school will be closed on Friday 27th May for staff training. Half term runs from 30th May – 3rd June. Children are back to school on Monday 6th June.

Sharing assemblies
Sharing assemblies this term will be held on the following Fridays at 9.15am:

Holly - 20th May
Sycamore – 17th June
Chestnut - 24th June
Oak – 1st July
Willow – 8th July
Cherry – 15th July

New Parents Evening
A meeting for parents of children starting school in September will be held on Thursday 9th June at 7.30pm.

Group Photographs
Class photographs will be taken on Friday 10th June.

Sponsored Bounce
The annual Friends Sponsored Bounce is taking place this year on Thursday 16th June. The event takes place during normal school hours; the children seek sponsorship and then see how many bounces they can do in one minute. Look out for more information nearer the time.

School Sunday
We are pleased to be taking part in School Sunday on Sunday 26th June in All Saints’ Church, along with the Junior School. The service is at 10.30am, we meet at 10.15am. This year the children will be singing one song with All Saints. Parents can drop children off if they cannot stay and they will be looked after by staff. The service concludes at approximately 11.30am and unaccompanied children will be looked after until they are safely collected. I hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend. The children do not have to wear school uniform. Please can you let class staff know if your child will be attending.

Induction Day
Induction Day, when all the children spend a day in their new classes for next year, is on Wednesday 29th June. This is also the day the new reception children visit Emscote and year 2 visits All Saints’ Junior School.

Friends
The friends are organising a book sale on Wednesday 6th July. If you have any books children or adult (ready for summer holiday reading!) please could you bring them to school on Friday 1st July.
At the moment the school uniform and 100 club is organised by Kate Johnson. Her daughter Ruby is moving to All Saints in September so we are looking for someone who could take on the role from her. Kate is happy to talk to anyone who is interested to ensure a proper hand over. Please come to the office or ask one of the Friends committee if you are interested.

School Trip
On Thursday 7th July the whole school will be going to Cotswold Wildlife Park.  We will have to ask for voluntary contributions from parents to enable the trips to go ahead. If you are able to help on the trip please speak to class staff. Look out for more details nearer the time.

Summer Fair
The Friends of Emscote Infant School Summer Fair takes place on Saturday 9th July between 12 – 2.00pm.
