School Newsletter

Summer Term 2011
Newsletter No. 10 - 13th June 2011

Dear parents,

Class lists
The classes will be restructured for September as usual. This ensures we have a real community feel in the school where every child knows all the others. It is a time to broaden friendships and balance the classes in every way. The new class lists are now on display in the entrance hall.

Triple P Parenting Programme
The Triple P positive parenting programme runs sessions for parents of children up to 12 years, providing guidance and information on parenting. There are 3 sessions planned for this month, starting on Tuesday 14th June at 9.30am at Coten End Primary School. The second session takes place on Tuesday 21st June and the final one takes place on Tuesday 28th June. The programme is relaxed and will provide an opportunity for you to talk and listen to other parents. Refreshments are included. For more information or to book a place please contact Rebecca Stock on 07982 819586 or stock.r@myton.co.uk.

Warwick Community Forum
Your Community Forum gives you the opportunity to raise issues of local concern (such as policing, council services and health) and to keep up-to-date with what is happening in your neighborhood, community and town. All residents are invited to attend. The next meeting takes place at school on Thursday 16th June, 6pm - 8pm.

If you would like to raise any issues of concern at the next Community Forum meeting or get involved please contact the Warwick Community Partnership Team  on 01926 456020 or email Bernadette.Allen@warwickdc.gov.uk. You can also look online at www.warwickshire.gov.uk/warwickarea.

Sponsored Bounce
The annual Friends Sponsored Bounce is taking place this year on Thursday 16th June. The event takes place during normal school hours; the children seek sponsorship and then see how many bounces they can do in one minute. Look out for more information nearer the time.

School Sunday
We are pleased to be taking part in School Sunday on Sunday 26th June in All Saints’ Church, along with the All Saints Junior School. The service is at 10.30am, we meet at 10.15am. This year the children will be singing a song with the junior school. Parents can drop children off if they cannot stay and they will be looked after by staff. The service concludes at approximately 11.30am and unaccompanied children will be looked after until they are safely collected. I hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend. The children do not have to wear school uniform. Please can you let class staff know if your child will be attending.

Induction Day
Induction Day, when all the children spend a day in their new classes for next year, is on Wednesday 29th June. This is also the day the new reception children visit Emscote and year 2 visits their junior school.

Please remind them it is only for the day and they return to their own classes on the Thursday! Year 2 children will have their lunch at All Saints so if you would like them to have a school meal please order one as normal.

Friends of Emscote Infant School
The friends are organising a book sale on Wednesday 6th July. If you have any books children or adult (ready for summer holiday reading!) please could you bring them to school on Friday 1st July. And the School Summer Fair takes place on Saturday 9th July between 12 – 2.00pm.

The parents who help run book club, 100 club and the school uniform shop are leaving the school at the end of this term as their children move up to All Saints. If you feel you could take on one of these roles please let us know.

School Trip
The whole school trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park takes place on Thursday 7th July.  We will have to ask for voluntary contributions from parents to enable the trips to go ahead. Look out for the letter with all the details which will be going out next week.

Non-Uniform Day
Children can come in to school on Friday 8th July in their own clothes in return for bringing a tombola prize for the Summer Fair.

Reports
Your child’s report will be given to you on Wednesday 13th July. Please do complete and return the report comment slips to class teachers; we really appreciate feedback on the reports and how you feel your child’s year has gone. The summer parents’ meeting is informal; parents and children will have the opportunity to look at their books and share some of the lovely things they have been doing in school on Monday 18th July after Sports Day.  Please put the date in your diary! If you have any specific concerns or questions please arrange an appointment to meet your child’s class teacher.

Leavers’ Concerts
The year 2 end of year concerts are to be held on Tuesday 12th July at 10.00am and Thursday 14th July at 6.00pm. The Tuesday performance is for reception, year 1 parents, grandparents and other family members. The Thursday evening performance is for year 2 children and their families only as this is followed by the leavers’ BBQ. Details of this will be sent to year 2 parents shortly.

Feel the Buzz
The whole school has been enjoying singing with the County Music Service Feel the Buzz choral project. The children will be demonstrating what they have learned in a special assembly on Friday July 15th at 11.00am. You are all welcome to come along and hear them perform the songs they have been learning.

Sports Day
Sports Day will be held on Monday 18th July starting at 10.00am (weather permitting) at All Saints Junior School. Please bring a picnic with you to have after the Sports Day when we return to Emscote.  All children will need a packed lunch on that day. If you would like your child to be provided with a packed lunch from County Caterers, whether you are entitled to free school meals or pay for your child’s lunch, you must let the office know by Monday 11th July. If you do not let us know we cannot provide a packed lunch for your child.

May Attendance and Punctuality

Class Attendance Lates Class Attendance Lates
Willow 97.2% 2 Chestnut 96.0% 8
Cherry 98.0% 5 Holly 97.6% 6
Oak 96.3% 7 Sycamore 92.0% 13

There was a good improvement in percentage attendance in May, with five classes above the national average of 95%, well done everyone. However there has been a decrease in performance on the punctuality front. Can I remind you it is most important that your children arrive on time for school.

Yours sincerely

Debi Cossins
