School Closures
As you know the general election has been fixed for Thursday 6th May, so the school will be closed on that day as it will be a polling station. The school will also be closed for a teacher training day on Friday 28th May.
SATs
SATs begin for year 2 children in May. Please do not discuss this with your child, we try to just make it part of the normal school day and hopefully the children will be unaware that it has even taken place. It is, however, important they attend school during this time and arrive punctually please!
Emscote Fun Run and Street Party
A special community day is being arranged to take place on the green outside the school and church on Saturday 15th May 11-2pm. This is in collaboration with All Saints’ Junior School, All Saints’ Church and the Gap. The event includes a 3km fun run (or 1.5km Fun Walk for families) that starts at 11.20am, stalls, activities and pig roast. We will be running stalls to raise money for the school. Do come along to support this event in the community. If anyone can help on the day even just for an hour please come along and volunteer.
Walk to School Week
Walk to School Week takes place this year between 17th – 21st May. We shall again be participating in this health promotion week and also hope to reduce traffic visiting school. The children will be given diaries and other activities to complete as they walk to school. Remember if you have to travel by car you can always park at Tesco and walk to school from there!
Sponsored Bounce
The annual Friends Sponsored Bounce is taking place this year on Wednesday 19th May. The event takes place during normal school hours; the children seek sponsorship and then see how many bounces they can do in one minute. Look out for more information nearer the time.
New Parents Evening
Can you believe it’s that time of year already? A meeting for parents of children starting school in September will be held on Thursday 10th June at 7.30pm. Induction Day, when all the children spend a day in their new classes for next year, is on Wednesday 30th June. That is also the day the new reception children visit Emscote and year 2 visit the All Saints Junior School.
Curriculum Focus
Curriculum Focus week is 14th – 18th June. The topics this term are History and Geography.

School Trips
We have exciting trips booked for all the children this term. We will have to ask for voluntary contributions from parents to enable the trips to go ahead.
If you are taking your child on holiday in term time over the next months, please could you fill in and return to school a holiday request form as soon as possible, so that we can work out the costs for our trips. Thank you.
Eco School
The Eco Team have been encouraging the school to save recycle the food waste at lunchtime. The children collect the food waste and put it into our new green recycling bins which are on the field. Please can you encourage your children to continue this at home?
Reading at Home
The following are some tips to help support and encourage your child with their reading at home:
- Never ‘rubbish’ anything a child wants to read. Even the flimsiest material helps build reading stamina.
- Value all reading, including webpages, instructions and magazines.
- Be seen absorbed in books yourself; boys particularly need good role models in this regard.
- Take your children to bookshops, libraries and book events.
- Read children’s books yourself and show real interest in them.
- Restrict time spent with TV and computers and do not allow them in children’s bedrooms; not difficult if you start the way you mean to go on!
