School Newsletter

Autumn Term 2009
Newsletter No. 3 - 13th November

Dear Parents,

Operation Christmas Child
You are reminded you need to bring your shoeboxes for the Operation Christmas child appeal no later than Monday 16th November.

Children In Need
On Friday 20th November the school will be going dotty for Children in Need, with lots of activities planned to raise money for this charity. Children will be asked to bring in coppers to create a giant wheel in the hall, and they will be making cakes to sell in the playground at the end of the day. Look out for the flyer.

Autumn Disco
The Friends of Emscote Infant School will be holding an Autumn Disco on Friday 20th November from 4-5.30pm, at a cost of £3 (to include drink and crisps). Please see your child’s class rep or a member of the Friends for a ticket. Ideally there should be two representatives for each class; there are vacancies for Willow, Cherry and Holly classes so if you could volunteer for this role please see your class teacher.
Class Reps:
Willow – Anita Metcalfe (Jack)
Oak – Jo Coles-West (Kate West), Rachel Reed (Devon)
Chestnut – Louisa Clarkson (Daisy), Kate Johnson (Ruby Goss)
Sycamore – Lynn Stevens (Nathanial), Beth England (Hannah)

Book Club
Book Club takes place every Friday afternoon.  If you wish your child to participate, please make sure they bring money to school in a clearly labelled envelope.  The children can choose a book to save for bringing a little money each week until they have saved enough to buy their book.

Save A Baby’s Life Course
On Monday 30th November the school is hosting a course on how to rescue an unconscious or choking baby. The course is free and runs between 9.30-11.30am. If you are interested contact your nearest children’s centre or ask your health visitor.

Non -uniform Day
On Thursday 3rdh December the children can come to school in the their own clothes in return for a donation for the tombola stall at the Christmas Fair.

Christmas Fair
This year’s Christmas Fair will be held on Friday December 4th from 6 till 8pm. This is always a brilliant evening with lots of fun activities. The Friends will be writing to you soon to ask for your help. A list for volunteers will go up in reception and we would like you to collect empty jam jars for the surprise stall.

Christmas Performance
The concert this year takes place on Wednesday 9th December at 10.00am and 6.00pm. The children go home at 2.00pm on this day. Further details to follow.

Pantomime
A visiting theatre company will be putting on a performance of Mother Goose for the children on Tuesday 15th December.

Christmas Lunch
The children’s Christmas school lunch will be on Wednesday 16th December (you should have already returned the request slip). A letter will be sent out nearer the time reminding you and requesting payment (if applicable).

Toast Money
Please make sure, as far as possible, that children bring in the correct money for toast; if they bring in large denominations of coins giving change becomes a problem.

Parking
I do appreciate parking can be difficult at the beginning and end of the school day, but I would ask parents please to show due care and attention when parking. We have to be aware of the needs of the church and local residents. Also, it is important to keep clear of the lines outside the school as parking in these areas puts the children in danger when crossing the road to school.

Wear it Pink Day
You will be pleased to know that last month’s Wear it Pink Day raised £149.30 for Breast Cancer Campaign. Thank you everyone for your support.

Family Information Service
If you are looking for help or advice on issues such as finding childcare or financial help to support you and your family the Family Information Service could have the answer. This is a free and impartial service offering information and signposting to children, young people and families on these concerns and others, including disability, illness and special educational needs support, and parenting tips and advice. To find out how the service can help you call 0845 090 8044, email fis@warwickshire.gov.uk or visit www.warwickshire.gov.uk.

Dogs at School
If you bring your dog with you when you come to school please be mindful of other children who may not be so confident around animals. Please keep your dog under close control and keep them well away from the gates where nervous children might have to walk past them.

Yours sincerely,

Debi Cossins
Headteacher
