The Scholastic Book Fair will be in school next week 14th-17th June. Come and browse the books with your child when you collect them at the end of the day; there are over 200 titles with prices starting from only £2.99. And each book you buy means one new book for the school!

Assembly at All Saints
On Thursday 16th June all Emscote pupils will be walking to All Saints Junior School to share an assembly. All Saints will be visiting Emscote for assembly on Thursday 8th July.

Strawberry Tea
We are holding a Strawberry Tea to raise money for Breast Cancer Care, the charity that provides skilled emotional and practical support for breast cancer sufferers. This will take place on Wednesday 23rd June at 9.00am in the hall. Many families in our school community have been touched by this disease and we would like to raise as much money as possible. If you could make a cake or small cakes to sell that would be brilliant. Your child can join you for a drink and a cake.

Friday Sharing Assemblies
Sharing assemblies will be held at 9.15am as follows:

Friday 25th June – Chestnut
Friday 2nd July – Willow
Friday 9th July – Cherry

Warwick Carnival
Warwick Carnival takes place on Saturday 26th June. The Emscote Cheerleaders will be walking in the carnival; do come along to support us on the way.

Induction Day
Wednesday 30th June is induction day when all children spend some time in the classes they will be moving to in September. Please remind them it is only for the day and they return to their own classes on the Thursday! Year 2 children will be visiting their Junior School.  They will require a packed lunch; if they want a packed lunch from County Caterers, whether you are entitled to free school meals or pay for your child’s lunch, you must let the office know by Wednesday 23rd June. If you do not let us know we cannot provide a packed lunch for your child.

Intercultural Festival
Ten year 2 children have been invited to attend an Art Festival Workshop at Woodloes School on Tuesday 6th July. The workshop is part of the Intercultural Creative and Performing Arts Festival 2010. If you have a large car and would be able to help with transport on this day please speak to Mrs Sweeting.

Cotswold Wildlife Park
The whole school will be visiting the Cotswold Wildlife Park on Wednesday 7th July. You should have received a letter about this; please send in your voluntary contribution and permission slip as soon as possible. If you are able to help on the day please speak to class staff.

Summer Fair
The Friends of Emscote Infant School Summer Fair takes place on Saturday 10th July, 12-2pm. Helpers are needed; please sign the lists in the entrance hall when they appear if you could spare some time, even if it’s only half an hour, every little helps!

Non-Uniform Day
Children can come in to school on Friday 9th July in their own clothes in return for bringing a tombola prize for the Summer Fair.

Reports
Your child’s report will be given to you on Wednesday 14th July. Please could you return the report slips to class teachers. We really appreciate feedback on the reports and how you feel your child’s year has gone, so please add a comment. The summer parents’ meeting is informal.

Parents and children have the opportunity to look at their books and share some of the lovely things they have been doing in school on Monday 19th July after Sports Day.  Please put the date in your diary! If you have any specific concerns or questions please arrange to meet your child’s class teacher.

Leavers’ Concerts
Our end of year concerts are to be held on Wednesday 14th July at 10am and 6pm. The 10am performance is for reception, year 1 parents, grandparents and other family members, but the 6pm performance is for year 2 children and their families only as this is followed by the leavers’ BBQ. Details of this will be sent to year 2 parents shortly.

Sports Day
Sports Day will be held on Monday 19th July starting at 10am (weather permitting) at All Saints Junior School. Please bring a picnic with you to have after the Sports Day when we return to Emscote.  All children will need a packed lunch on that day. If you would like your child to be provided with a packed lunch from County Caterers, whether you are entitled to free school meals or pay for your child’s lunch, you must let the office know by Monday 12th July. If you do not let us know we cannot provide a packed lunch for your child.

Church Service
The final assembly for the year is at 9.15am on Thursday 22nd July at All Saints’ Church to say goodbye to our amazing year 2. Please come and support us.

Outside toys
We have a few bikes and scooters that need fixing; if anyone could spare a moment to have a look at them for us it would be much appreciated. If you have a bike, scooter or helmet that your child has grown out of or no longer uses we would also be very happy to receive them.

Job Opportunity
A local small business selling antiques and collectables on the internet is looking for a part-time assistant, for up to 16 hours a week. No knowledge of antiques is required. The business is located close to the school so handy for a parent looking for a job that fits in around the children. See the poster on the window at the front entrance to the school or contact Greg Diffen for more details on 01926 733484.

Governor of the Month
This month we meet Chris Heydon, parent governor:

“I became a governor at Emscote last year when my eldest son Joshua was in year 2.  It was something I had considered doing a number of times. I didn’t know very much about how a school is run and thought becoming a governor might help me find out. And I wanted to help make sure my children would receive the best possible education. So eventually I took the challenge!

Being a governor is about supporting and advising the headteacher, and sharing in formulating the school’s aims and visions.

Each governor at Emscote takes responsibility for a different aspect of the curriculum; my area of responsibility is literacy. This means that when I visit school I take a particular interest in literacy, talking to children about their targets, asking them what they are currently learning and how this is applied to their literacy.

Joshua is now at All Saints but my second child Samuel is due to start in reception at Emscote in September. I am pleased I have been able to maintain my relationship with the school in Joshua’s absence and am looking forward to being able to make a real contribution to the education of Samuel and all the other children at Emscote.”

End of term
We finish for the summer holidays on Friday 23rd July.

Yours sincerely,

Debi Cossins
Headteacher
