School Newsletter

Spring Term 2009
Newsletter No. 7 - 6th March

Dear Parents,

Reading
If you have 15 minutes to spare at the start of each day, between 8.55-9.10, we are looking for an army of helpers to read with children on a daily basis. You would have a small group of children to read with or play phonic games. This small regular input would really benefit the children. Please see class staff or myself if you are available.

National No Smoking Day
Wednesday 11th March is National No Smoking Day. It would be great if there could be no smoking around the school grounds on this day!

Red Nose Day
We are raising funds for Red Nose Day on Friday 13th March. The children can have fun wearing any clothes they like to school as long as they are worn backwards! A small donation would be greatly appreciated.

Easter Activities
The Friends Family Easter Bingo takes place on Friday 27th March. This is a fun evening and always well attended, so make sure you put the date in your diary.
From Monday 23rd March year 2 children will be selling raffle tickets in school (10p a ticket) to be drawn at the bingo; the prize is a Lego collection worth £70. Children can come to school in their own clothes on the Friday in return for bringing an Easter egg for the bingo.
The Easter Church service will be on Tuesday 31st March at 9.15am.

Family School Meal
I am very keen to promote the “Family Service” system of school meals we use. The system is similar to that many parents may have experienced when they were at school. It works very well and I would like to encourage more children to have a hot dinner. On Thursday 2nd April we are offering a free school dinner to all of the children, parents and grandparents. You should have received a letter about this; please call in to the office if you haven’t seen it. Fill in the reply slip on the letter and return it by Friday 13th March if you would like to come and have a free school lunch with your child. We would love to see you.

Computer Course
We are planning to run a computer course for adults and children after school. Please look out for further information.

100 Club
You are reminded the Friends of Emscote Infant School run a 100 club. This is a monthly lottery draw where half the money raised goes towards cash prizes for three winners and the other half goes towards funds to benefit the children. It costs £1 per month per number. If you would like to join the 100 club please pop in to the office or see Jo West (Ella, Chestnut).

Playground
Please remember that the adventure play equipment, train and sandpit are to be used during playtime and lunchtime. Before and after school we are not covered by the schools insurance.

Holidays in term time
If you wish to take your children out of school during term time for a holiday a form, available from the school office, needs to be completed and returned to school with an accompanying letter (if necessary).  This should be done 6 weeks before the start of the holiday.  Up to 10 days in a year may be granted and authorised, but previous attendance will be taken into consideration.  Once attendance has been checked you will be contacted to inform you if the leave has been authorised or not.  You may be asked to come in and speak with me regarding your application.

Absence from School
It is a requirement for school to report all absences and they have to be specifically coded depending on the reason for the absence. It is therefore most important that you inform the school by phone on the first day of your child’s absence or by letter on their return to school, thank you.

Communications
Don’t forget you can e-mail the school with any messages if you would prefer: admin2332@we-learn.com

Finally, I would like to thank parents for their continued support to the children and staff of Emscote Infant School which makes the school such a special place.

Yours sincerely,

Debi Cossins
Headteacher
