School Newsletter
Autumn Term 2008
Newsletter No. 3 - 12th November
Dear Parents,
I hope you all had an enjoyable and restful half term.
I am pleased to welcome Hannah Stevenson who will be teaching in Chestnut, whilst Miss Servant takes her well earned maternity leave. I am sure you will all make her feel very welcome.
Shoeboxes
Please bring your filled boxes to school no later than Monday 17th November as they are to be collected from school on Wednesday 19th November.
Teddy Bears Picnic
Don't forget to bring in a teddy and donation for children in need, on Friday 14th November, for our Teddy Bears Picnic.
Autumn Disco
The Friends will be holding the Autumn Disco on Friday 14th November from 4-5.30pm, at a cost of £3 (to include drink and crisps). Please see your child's class rep or a member of the Friends for a ticket. If your child's class hasn't got a rep-why not volunteer!
Book Club
Book Club restarted again on Monday 3rd November. If you wish your child to participate, please make sure they bring money to school in a clearly labelled envelope. Thank you.
Friends of Emscote Meeting
The next friends meeting will be on Tuesday 25th November. All are welcome. Participation of parents is essential for a successful PTA, which in turn will benefit your child.
Fire Safety
Year 1 will be having a Fire Safety talk on Tuesday 25th November with our local Fire Service. This will give the children valuable awareness of what the Fire Service does and how dangerous fire can be.
Harvest Gifts
Thank you so much for all the tins you so kindly donated to the Leamington Salvation Army. Your gifts will make a difference to many people. Well done everyone!
Yellow Pages
Please continue to bring your old Yellow Pages to school for recycling. We will be collecting them until Friday 12th December 2008.
Christmas Fair
This year's Christmas Fair will be held on Friday December 5th from 6 till 8pm. This is always a brilliant evening with lots of fun activities. The Friends will be writing to you soon to ask for your help. =
Anti-Bullying Week – 17th to 21st November
We shall once again be supporting Anti-bullying Week. This encourages positive and acceptable behaviours throughout the school. Bullying is defined as the deliberate targeting of another person to inflict physical or verbal abuse. This is something we do not tolerate at Emscote. Our Ofsted inspection praised us for the care we take of our pupils. Throughout the week we shall be reinforcing the slogan:
“Bullying: See it, Get help, Stop it.” Please talk to your child about these issues, especially during the focus week.
Non School uniform day
Thursday 4th December. Donations of tombola prizes for the Christmas fair would be gratefully received.
Christmas Concert
Letters will be coming home about costumes for the Christmas concert on Wednesday 19th November. Please look out for the letter. Costumes need to be in school by Wednesday 3rd December as the first dress rehearsal is on Friday 5 th December.
The Christmas concert will be on Tuesday 9th December, further details to follow. Thank you for your support.
Christmas Lunch
The Christmas lunch will be on Wednesday 17th December, you should have already returned the request slip by now. A letter will be sent out nearer the time reminding you and requesting payment (if applicable). The cost of the lunch will be the usual £1.65.
Sand Pit
We would like to clear out the large sand pit for the winter. It could also do with a bit of grouting and a few extra bricks to help keep the water out. If anyone can help with either of these tasks please speak to Miss Hudson.
Adventure Playground Equipment
We are still looking for a carpenter who could help to replace the wood around the play equipment that keeps the bark in place. If you are able to help please speak to Miss Hart in the office.
Letters and Sounds
All our pupils follow the Letters and Sounds programme. The children have all been assessed and put into groups. The children are working in mixed age groups. The sessions last for 20 minutes and take place in the afternoons on four days a week. This is a government initiative aiming to raise children's phonic knowledge.
Handwriting
This is also a school focus this year. Please discuss what your child has been learning in school and ask for a demonstration. Already we have seen huge improvements.
Reading
Please try to regularly read with or to your child at home. It has come to my attention that some children have no experience of reading at home. We are really aiming to work in partnership with you to develop your children's skills. Please try to support your child as much as possible at home.
PE Kit
Please remember your child needs a PE kit; please send in shorts, t-shirt and possibly tracksuit bottoms as they will be doing outside PE all year as long as it is not raining. There are still some children who do not have PE kit!
No Parking Please
I would like to remind parents that they should keep clear of the lines outside the school when parking at the beginning and end of the day. It is very busy at this time and parking in these areas puts the children in danger when crossing the road to school. Please do not park here.
Pre - School
Emscote Pre-School is looking for a new member of staff to work for approximately 11 hours per week. For more information call in at the pre-school or telephone 01926 495619.
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours sincerely,
Debi Cossins
