Pink day
What a fun day this turned out to be! The children and staff made a great effort with their dress and the sum of £79 was raised for Breast Cancer Charity. Thank you all so much.

Family Afternoon – Thursday 18th October
This is always a great afternoon when all Reception children go home for lunch at 12 o'clock and return at 2pm to show their parents, grandparents and families their classroom and some of the exciting things they have been doing in their first half term at Emscote.
Inset day
Just a reminder, school is closed on Friday 19th October for staff training.
Photos
Please return your orders to school by Monday 29th October 2007. We have tried a new photographer this term and would welcome any comments.
Family Service
We have been running family service for our school dinners for over a year. This has been extremely successful with the children. It is very much like the ‘old way' of having school dinners. The children serve each other with the older children taking the role of server. We would like to encourage more children to have the healthy, hot school dinner. If your child would like to try a school dinner please send them with dinner money which is £1.60.
Friends of the School
The first meeting this term of the Friends of the School was held on Tuesday 9th October. It was good to see some new faces. Thank you to all who came along. The Friends of the School help to raise money for the school and organise events. If you would like to become involved please come along to the next meeting on Tuesday 30 th October at 7.30pm in school.
Book Club
This will be re- starting after half term on:
Thursday pm - Year One and Two
Friday pm - Reception
If you would like your child to join in this scheme to save every week to buy books to take home, please send money in a clearly named envelope.
Operation Christmas Child or Shoe Box Appeal
This is an opportunity for us to fill shoeboxes with gifts for children in poorer parts of the world. The assembly has been rearranged for Wednesday 31st October 9.15am when Moira Dickson will explain what can and cannot be included in the boxes. As a school we have supported this charity magnificently in the past, filling in the region of 75 boxes. Don't worry if you can't make the assembly as a detailed leaflet will be given to every child. The boxes need to be returned to school by the middle of November. We will let you know the exact date when we know it, please look out for a notice.
Book Fair
We are having a book fair in school from Monday 26 th – Thursday 29th November 2007 2.45 – 3.15pm . We are looking for 2 volunteers each day to help with the fair from 2.30pm . If you would like to help please let me know.
The Balloon Race
The Balloon race will be on Friday 9th November this year. Children are invited to buy balloons and launch them. Not only is this great fun but it raises valuable funds for school and ultimately the children. Details of the balloon race will be sent to you by the Friends of the School nearer the event. Parents are invited to join their children for the launch and details of each class launch time will be published too. Hope you can join us!
Yellow Pages Recycling Competition
Warwick District Council is again launching their recycling competition. Last year we were amongst the prize winners and it would be great if we could collect even more this year. Mrs Harrison had a brilliant idea of putting a note through her neighbour's doors asking them for their yellow pages. The competition runs until 7th December 2007. The delivery of the new batch of Yellow Pages (2007/08) will begin at the end of October. Please bring your old copies to school once your new copy has been delivered, thank you.
Walk to school Wednesday
We're encouraging children to walk to school every Wednesday as it improves their health and fitness. It can also reduce the number of cars coming to school and improve safety.
School website
Our new website is now working. Please take a look at: www.emscote.warwickshire.sch.uk
Free School meals
Please let us know if your child is entitled to a free school meal, even if your child takes a packed lunch. This is very important to the school as it effects the funding that the school receives.
Data collection sheets
Thank you to all who have returned these. If you have not returned your form, please would you do so as soon as possible to ensure that we have correct emergency contact details for your child. Please also inform us of any changes to contact telephone numbers at any time.
Yours sincerely
