School Newsletter

Autumn Term 2007
Newsletter No. 1 – 7th September

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the new term. I hope you all had a great summer holiday! I hope the children are refreshed and are ready for another exciting term at Emscote Infant School . A particularly warm welcome to our new children and their families. We hope you soon settle into your classes and enjoy being part of the happy and caring Emscote community. I've lots of news to tell you so please read on.

Staffing News

I am delighted to welcome Miss Hudson who will be teaching the children in Cherry class. She has moved to us from a school in Coventry and has already made a real impact on the team and the environment.

Mrs McLean, Mrs Dawson and Mrs Ormandy are three Special Needs Assistants who will be working in reception this term. We hope all new staff will enjoy working with us and will soon feel at home. The Emscote staff babies are all doing well, however Mr Queralt would like a little more sleep!

French Lessons

We hope to start these on Tuesday 11th September for years 1 and 2. A letter has been sent home and should be returned to school by Monday 10th September. Reception children will be offered the opportunity to have French lessons later in the school year.

Sports Club

We hope to start an after school sports club soon – details to follow.

Parent's Class Meeting

I would like to invite parents to a class meeting on Tuesday 18th September at 9.15am . This is an opportunity for you to meet the class teacher and teaching assistant. The class staff will share with you the curriculum to be taught in the year group. If you have any specific issues you would like to discuss with the teachers, please make an appointment to see them.

Free School Meals

If your child is entitled to Free School Meals and you have not informed the school, please contact Mrs Briggs in the office for further details and a form. Even if your child does not wish to take school meals, we would be grateful if you would still register your entitlement, as the school can receive further much-needed funding. Children entitled to Free School Meals will also be provided with free school milk if required, please see Mrs Briggs to arrange this.

Targets

The children will all be coming home with targets in the next few weeks. These are areas in literacy and Numeracy that they will be working on in class and could be supported with at home.

Reading Meeting for New Parents

I would like to invite new parents to the school to a short presentation on how we teach reading at Emscote. This will be on Thursday 27th September at 2pm . Come along and hear how you can support your child in learning this very important skill.

School Dinners

The cost of a school meal is now £1.60 or £8.00 for the week. Cheques should be made payable to Warwickshire County Council. Please send payments in a named sealed envelope.

Free envelopes are available from the school office if required. Payment can be made for the whole term or half-term as required.

Parent Reps

Each class would like one or two parent reps. The job involves encouraging parents to be involved in the classroom and on trips, and acting as a point of contact for other parents. Please see your class teacher if you would be interested in helping in this role.

Open Morning

Our Open Morning for parents with pre-school children will be held on Tuesday 2nd October from 1pm-2.30pm and Thursday 4th October from 9.30am- 10.30am and 11am- 11.55am . I would be grateful if you would display a flyer in your window to draw attention to the Open Morning and inform friends and neighbours with pre-school children, thank you. Applications for children to start school in September 2008 must be returned to the Admissions Service by 19th October 2007 .

PE Kit

Please remember your child needs a PE kit, including shorts, t-shirt and possibly tracksuit bottoms as they will be doing outside PE all year as long as it is not raining.

Emscote Playground

I am sure you'll agree the new playground markings, vegetable garden, seating, and fence painting is a very attractive addition to the school grounds. Our thanks go to National Grid who brought a team of 35 people to work during the holidays. This was a very exciting day, everyone worked extremely hard and the children will really benefit from their efforts. I hope you saw us in the Courier!

Please remember children are only to use the playground equipment during school hours. We are not insured for before and after school when the children are still parents' responsibility.

Uniform

Please remember always to send your child with a coat. They will be going outside for playtime and lunchtime each day. If you ordered uniform last term, these are ready for collection.

Parents Coffee Afternoon

A reception parent has suggested that it would be nice if parents could meet (especially new parents) to discuss any concerns with each other about how their children are settling in school, such as is it normal that they don't want to get up in the morning, are really tired, or are finding it difficult to separate in the morning. I have arranged the first meeting for Monday 24th September at 2.15pm in the staffroom. I hope this will be useful.

Yellow Woods Challenge

Last year we took part in the recycling of yellow pages. This is part of our Eco schools initiative to help divert the yellow pages from landfills. Please start collecting your yellow pages from friends and neighbours when you receive your new copy. The challenge is due to run from 29th October to 7th December.

Water Bottles

Volunteers are required to fill the bottles in the mornings. Please see your class teacher if you can help. Thank you.

Wear it pink day

In support of the Breast Cancer Campaign w- Thursday 11th October to support Breast Cancer Campaign

We have all been touched by a friend or relative who has had cancer. Please wear something pink on this day and send donations to continue researching the cure for breast cancer.

No parking please

I would like to remind parents that the service road directly in front of school should be kept clear to allow emergency vehicles access. It is permissible to drop children off, but please do not park there, thank you.

Parent Governor

Due to Kerrie Castor emigrating to Australia, we now have a vacancy for a Parent Governor at school. A letter will be sent to you shortly. If you are interested in finding out more about this important role, please speak to myself, Mrs Briggs or one of the existing Parent Governors.
