Newsletter No. 2 - 7th October 2011
Dear Parents,
Community Sponsored Walk
The community sponsored walk at Myton School on Wednesday 28th September raised £100 for Myton Hospice.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
Thank you for the encouraging and generous attendance at the Macmillan Coffee Morning last Friday, which led to a collection of £217.42.
Impact Learning- Years One and Two
I am really pleased that you have signed up for the workshops. We want to encourage parent involvement as much as possible and we hope this will be a useful session which will help you to support your child with writing. If you have not completed your form please see your child’s class teacher, it is essential that they have an adult with them for the session. There will be a session for reception parents in the Spring term.
Parents’ Coffee Afternoon
There will be a coffee afternoon for all parents on Monday 10th October at 2.15pm. This will be an opportunity for parents to meet and to discuss any concerns with each other about how their children are settling in school. Any parent is welcome to pop in for a coffee and a chat.
Wear it Pink Day
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month so we will be turning the school pink on Friday 14th October in support of the fight against breast cancer. Wear anything pink and send a donation to help fund Breast Cancer Campaign’s vital research.
Cinema Trip
You are reminded the whole school is also visiting the cinema on Friday 14th October. If you have not returned the required signed permission slip please do so as a matter of urgency.
Parents’ Evenings
Parents’ evenings will be held on Tuesday 18th October between 5.00pm – 7.30pm and Thursday 20th October between 3.15pm - 5.00pm. Lists will be up in the hall from Monday 10th October, please sign up for an appointment.
Family Afternoon for Reception Families
Family afternoon is on Thursday 20th October. Reception children go home at 12.00pm and return at 2pm. Please bring along family, grandparents and friends. The children can show their family their classrooms and you can meet the staff and have refreshments in the hall (donations of cakes would be most welcome). There will also be face painting, pull a string, and plant and second-hand uniform stalls (these will be going into the playground at the end of the day for the whole school to enjoy).
Harvest
We will also be holding our harvest festival assembly in the church on Thursday 20th October at 9.15am. Please send in a tin for our harvest collection which is going to The Salvation Army in Leamington who run a drop in centre and hostel. Examples of the foods that are desperately needed are tinned fruit, tinned spaghetti, tinned potatoes, pasta, soup, tinned meat and rice pudding. (They are already well stocked with beans!)
Sharing Assemblies
Sharing assemblies take place on Friday mornings at 9.15am:

Class Reps
Each class needs at least two representatives to act as a liaison between the teacher and parents, and to assist in organising help for the different activities in and outside the classroom. Below are the reps already allocated; if you feel you are up to such a role please talk to your child’s teacher:
Willow – Mrs Stephenson (Ava McDonnell), Mrs Aberton (Fern) and Mrs Travis (Freya)
Cherry – Mrs Hough Faithfull (Cleo)
Oak – Mrs Reynolds (Finley), Mrs Mancini (Charlotte)
Chestnut – seeking volunteers
Holly – Mrs Stephenson (Abigail)
Sycamore – Mrs Bloomfield (Sam)
School Dinners
You are reminded the cost of a school meal is £1.85 a day, £9.25 for the week. Meals should be paid for in advance for the whole week or regular days on a Monday morning. You can also purchase school meals on a half termly or termly basis. Please send the correct money on a Monday in an envelope clearly marked “lunch money” and with your child’s name and class (cheques should be made payable to Warwickshire County Council).
If you think your child is entitled to free school meals look online at www.warwickshire.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals or call the Customer Service Centre on 10296 742060. If you are entitled to free school meals please let the office now, even if you do not wish to take them, as the school receives much needed funding according to the number of children registered. The school will also buy milk for those children entitled to free school meals if required; please see Mrs Eaton to discuss this.
Toast Price
Toast is sold at break time at a cost of 20p a slice.
