Year One

What's the Forecast

In years 1 and 2 we have learned about the months and seasons of the year, and we have looked at maps of the UK. We then looked at the weather in the different seasons and then became weather forecasters presenting our very own weather forecast for the UK.

Fly the Flag

Apple class have been looking at flags, and learned how the Union Flag was created from the flags of the individual nations of the British Isles.

Fire Brigade Visit

Year 1 learned a lot from a visit from the Warwickshire Fire & Rescue Service.

We enjoyed learning about Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights.

Telling Tales

Stagecoach performing arts school delivered a "discovery workshop" on the theme of traditional tales.

All About Animals

Year 1 had the opportunity to make some new animal friends.

Santa's Workshop

The children had fun with some festive role play.

Christingle Tradition

Year 1 enjoyed learning about the Christmas tradition of Christingles. Christingle means "Christ's Light" and it is used to celebrate Jesus Christ as the "Light of the World". Christingles are made up of different parts, each one being there to remind us of something. The orange represents the world; the candle reminds Christians of Jesus who they believe to be the light of the world; the red ribbon goes all round the 'world' and being the colour of blood reminds Christians that Jesus died; the four cocktail sticks could have either of two meanings, the four seasons or the four corners of the world; the sweets (or sometimes dried fruit) remind Christians of God's gifts to the world including kindness and love.
