Emscote Infant School

September 2009

As part of their topic work on celebrations and feasts year 1 children have been learning about Shabbat, the Jewish holy day, or Sabbath, when Jewish families share a meal. One of the most important customs is the setting of the Shabbat table.

Before the Shabbat meal a blessing is said over the wine.

Two loaves of Challah (bread) are blessed to begin the meal.

And then the family eats together.

The children have also been working hard on numeracy, looking at numbers and coins.
